Discover Restaurante El Soportal

When you're wandering through the heart of Madrid, just a stone's throw from the iconic Plaza Mayor, you'll stumble upon Restaurante El Soportal. Nestled in the vibrant Centro district, this charming spot offers a warm welcome, tempting locals and visitors alike with its carefully curated menu and inviting atmosphere. Whether you're craving a traditional Spanish dish or something with a modern twist, this restaurant delivers an experience worth remembering.

Upon entering Restaurante El Soportal, the first thing you'll notice is the rustic yet elegant decor. The wooden beams and stone walls transport you to a timeless part of Madrid, where history and contemporary dining effortlessly blend together. It's a perfect reflection of the city's balance between old and new, a theme that resonates throughout the dining experience.

The menu is an exciting journey through Spanish flavors, offering a range of dishes that are both familiar and innovative. If you're a fan of tapas, you'll be in for a treat with options that range from the ever-popular patatas bravas to more unique offerings like gambas al ajillo, or garlic shrimp, served with a generous amount of olive oil, garlic, and a hint of spice. Each bite is a burst of flavor, with the perfect balance of textures and ingredients. And don't overlook the traditional Spanish tortilla, which stands as a testament to the restaurant's commitment to authenticity.

For those seeking a heartier meal, Restaurante El Soportal has an impressive selection of main courses. The paella, a Spanish staple, is particularly notable here. Prepared with fresh, locally sourced seafood and saffron-infused rice, it’s a dish that exemplifies the best of Mediterranean cooking. Every bite brings you closer to the essence of Spain, with flavors that seem to transport you to the coastal regions of Valencia or Alicante.

If you’re in the mood for something a bit different, try their signature dish, the roast lamb. It’s slow-cooked to perfection, tender and juicy with just the right amount of seasoning, served with roasted vegetables and a rich gravy. The dish exemplifies the restaurant’s attention to detail and dedication to delivering high-quality meals to its guests.

For dessert, the selection at Restaurante El Soportal is just as impressive. The flan, a classic Spanish custard dessert, is perfectly creamy with a delicate caramel topping. Another must-try is the churros, served hot and dusted with sugar, and paired with a thick, rich chocolate sauce that’s perfect for dipping.

One of the standout features of Restaurante El Soportal is its impeccable service. The staff here go above and beyond to ensure that every guest feels at home. From the moment you walk through the door, you're greeted with a smile and treated like part of the family. The knowledge and passion for Spanish cuisine are evident in their recommendations, and they’re always ready to guide you through the menu to make sure you enjoy the best possible meal.

With its ideal location in the heart of Madrid, just steps away from cultural landmarks, Restaurante El Soportal also makes for a perfect stop after a day of sightseeing. Whether you’re taking a break from exploring Plaza Mayor or enjoying a leisurely evening out, this spot offers both comfort and authenticity. And with its wide range of dishes and welcoming ambiance, it’s a great choice for groups, families, or even a romantic evening for two.

For those planning to visit, it’s a good idea to make a reservation, as Restaurante El Soportal can get quite busy, especially during peak hours. But even if you walk in without one, the warm, friendly staff will do their best to accommodate you. The atmosphere is relaxed but lively, making it an ideal place for both casual dining and special occasions.

In terms of pricing, Restaurante El Soportal offers great value for the quality of food and service provided. While it may not be the cheapest spot in Madrid, the quality of the dishes, the service, and the overall dining experience make it well worth the price.

Whether you're a Madrid local or just visiting, Restaurante El Soportal is a must-try. Its combination of flavorful, traditional Spanish cuisine, a welcoming atmosphere, and excellent service ensure that every meal here is an experience in itself.

  • We had the braised oxtail meal . I totally recommend this dish. It was outstanding. It came with potatoes and we split a Cesar Salad. It was a good amount of food. The service was impressive! Geraldo was attentive and very prompt with his service and his advice. The glass of wine we had was Arienzo from Marques de Riscal. It was a perfect compliment to the meal. It is in the Plaza Mayor and has umbrellas that mist on a hot day like we had 33 degrees

  • We have come here twice now and been served by Gerardo. He himself creates an atmosphere of welcoming warmth, he is attentive and remembered our drinks order. He is what hospitality is all about , and as a former restaurant manager I recognise talent when I see it. Well done Gerardo you need a promotion

  • Loved our lunch here! Perfect afternoon seated outside under patio umbrella with mist. The meatballs and oxtail entrees were absolutely flavorful. Gerardo, our host, offered excellent service… we were even offered a tasting of the oxtail before deciding to order the dish. Highly recommend this restaurant.

  • I had a lovely meal here the other night. There are a bunch of restaurants in Plaza Mayor and I’ll admit I chose this restaurant because they had tables available with a good view. I was pleasantly surprised by how good the food was! They started me off with some bread and olives. For appetizer I had Rasher of Bacon. And for my main course I had the stewed oxtail. The meat was falling off the bone and super tasty! Service was great. The main guy out front drawing people in was very helpful with the menu and gave me great recommendations ! If you are ever visiting Plaza Mayor, you gotta eat here!

  • This is our favorite place in Plaza Mayor. The Oxtail stew and the Cochinillo are so delicious! The staff here is very friendly, and great to speak with. We’ve been here three times in the week we have been staying here. Both Gerardo and Sabina are such wonderful and attentive servers, and they are fun to chat with! The view of El Plaza Mayor can not be beaten! Este lugar es buenísimo! The view

  • Dinner was surprisingly delicious! We didn’t expect a lot knowing it’s a major tourist location, but the food and service was great. We had eggplant fries( they should be careful and not fry them in the same oil as the calamari, I think they might as there was a hit of squidishness!). The little lamb chops were yummy, the roasted pork very tasty and moist. The potatoes were great and my husband the Flan connoisseur said it was excellent!
